There is a ladder at each end of the crawler: hold up to climb aboard. The helm is in the cab. A ladder on the back of the helm house takes you up onto its roof, and some places can only be reached from up there. Tins are eaten where you find them. Fuel cans and repair kits have to be carried aboard.
Mines, rockfalls and opened gates yield scrap. Spend it at the workshops past each gate on upgrades, and repaint the crawler there for free.
Only the crawler can break a rockfall, load the weighbridge or open Haven. You cannot finish the road on foot.
